As an advocate for mental health, Brent Hope shares how the ACE framework helps to shape his day.

 

Achieve: Start with small but achievable daily goals, the big ones can be put on hold. i.e. Redo the garden, go for a walk, do an online course etc, whatever that looks like for you.  We all know how it feels to stand back and say ‘Aargh the job is done and it feels great’ .

 

Connect:  Make new or old connections with family and friends. If people in their 90’s are using Skype, Facetime even Zoom then you can too. A rare opp to chat to old friends, maybe to apologise to others. There is no excuse, there is no more ‘I have been too busy to contact you in years’.

 

Remember the old cliché ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’. How did it feel to drop an elderly neighbours shopping at their door? Random acts of kindness.

 

Lastly... 

 

Enjoy: Please allow time to do something just for you. Escape, even for an hour to read a book, watch a movie, walk the dog, paint a picture, learn a language. This can be a time to do that thing that you have always been too busy to do.

 

Remember it only take about 3 weeks to form new habits and they can be good as well as bad.

 

We will get through this, and actually come through it as better human beings.
